Tips and Tricks

You can avoid many service appointments can be avoided by checking these things before you call:

  • Check the batteries and settings in your thermostat. Dead batteries can shut off the program or the entire system.
  • If you have a WiFi thermostat and app, check that the app is up to date and that the WiFi is connected.
  • Check that the power switch or breaker is "on" to your equipment. The power switch looks like a light switch and can be accidentally turned off. Label or tape the switch to avoid this.
  • Check your furnace filter. A clogged filter will trip safety switches and shut the system down. If this happens, change the filter, wait 10 minutes, and attempt to restart the unit. If the safety switch is still working, it should start as usual.
  • Change your 1" furnace/air handler filter at least every few months. 6" filters should be changed every six months to a year, depending on their condition. Keep an eye on them!
