Filtration
How to choose the right filter for your home.
Most furnaces of air handlers are installed with 1” filters that have the purpose of protecting the furnace from the dust and particulates in your home. These filters should be changed every 3 months and do little to clean the air in your home. Changing the filter often is an important step in maintaining the proper operation of your equipment.
Most of us still remember how bad the air can get with wildfires and their smoke in the air. Keeping your house comfortable means keeping your windows closed and your interiors free of smoke. However, indoor air can be a problem, too, which is why having a filtration system installed in your heating and cooling system can make a huge difference.
There are many filtration systems you can add to help purify and clean your air. Filters are classified by MERV ratings. The higher the rating, the smaller the particles they are capable of capturing.
HEPA or carbon filters are a good option for cleaning micro-particles and odors from your air. These filters trap dust, smoke particles, dirt, hair and many of the other things that travel unseen through the air in our homes.
Electronic (or electrostatic) air filters can be highly effective in removing contaminants from your home's air, which can help with symptoms of allergies, asthma, and other breathing difficulties. Maintenance and frequent cleaning are essential if you are installing or have one installed.
